In October 2024, the Department of Human Dimensions at CzechGlobe participated in the Book Launch and Consortium Meeting of the SSH Centre project (Social Science and Humanities for Climate, Energy and Transport Research Excellence), held in Granada, Spain. This meeting brought together consortium partners to celebrate major achievements, share insights, and discuss the future trajectory of our collaborative work. Below, we share some key highlights from the meeting.

Book Launch & Panel Event
A highlight of the Granada meeting was the launch of three open-access books, each offering policy recommendations for climate, energy, and mobility in line with the EU Green Deal. These books were developed through the SSH Centre project, which brought together 154 researchers from 23 countries and resulted in 29 policy-focused chapters across the three books.
The book launch event commenced with introductory remarks and was followed by presentations from editors of the three publications Rosie Robison, Ami Crowther, Imre Keserű, and Ester Galende-Sanchez, who provided an overview of each book and the policy recommendations they entail. Their presentations laid the groundwork for the panel discussion, moderated by Chris Foulds, and featuring four representatives of the European Commission Elena Dufour, Bruno Mola, Jesus Alquezar, and Suzanna Kraak. As experts from the Directorates-General for Research & Innovation, Environment, and Climate, they emphasized the critical role of interdisciplinary collaboration between Social Sciences, Humanities, and STEM fields in addressing complex policy challenges. Their discussion underscored the need for innovative, cross-disciplinary approaches to achieve sustainable solutions.

Consortium Meeting and Workshop by CzechGlobe
Following the book launch, partners engaged in a two-day consortium meeting. During this time, CzechGlobe had the opportunity to lead a workshop that brought focus to two essential themes: interdisciplinary research processes and its challenges and identifying research topic priorities for overcoming SSH-STEM fragmentation. The workshop fostered an open exchange of experiences, challenges, and strategies, with consortium members sharing insights and advice to for strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration.
